The West Chester, Ohio community is mourning the heartbreaking loss of Zachary Daniel McMullen, a young police officer and Army National Guard member whose life was defined by service, compassion, and dedication to others. Born on July 18, 2004, in Cincinnati, Ohio, Zachary McMullen grew up surrounded by a close-knit and loving family. From an early age, he demonstrated a strong sense of responsibility and a desire to serve others. He attended Lakota East High School before continuing his education at Butler Tech, where he pursued technical training aligned with his growing interest in public safety. He later earned an associate degree in criminal justice from Owens Community College, further solidifying his path toward law enforcement.

In September 2025, Zachary achieved a lifelong goal when he joined the West Chester Township Police Department. Colleagues remember him as professional, respectful, and deeply committed to helping others. His presence within the department was marked by kindness, reliability, and a genuine willingness to serve the community he protected. His dedication extended beyond law enforcement, as he also served honorably as a Private First Class in the Army National Guard, having completed training at Fort Benning, Georgia.

Those who knew Zachary describe him as warm, approachable, and deeply compassionate. He had a natural ability to connect with people, often making others feel valued and understood. Whether through his work, friendships, or community involvement, he carried a positive energy that left a lasting impression on everyone he met. Zachary is survived by his parents, Dan and Tara McMullen (Mangold), his siblings Maggie McMullen and Matthew McMullen, his grandmother Vicki Mangold, and his extended family, including aunts, uncles, cousins, and close friends who mourn his passing deeply. He is also lovingly remembered by his loyal dog, Arrow. He was preceded in death by several beloved family members, whose memory he now joins.

Funeral arrangements include visitation on June 18, 2026, at Hodapp Funeral Homes in Liberty Township, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial on June 19, 2026, at St. Maximilian Kolbe Parish.
